Wellcome Image Awards Gallery

If you haven’t seen this already, go check it. The Wellcome Image Awards Gallery showcase a striking display of shapes and patterns illustrating the microscopic structures of living organisms in a spectacular variety of ways which are normally invisible to the naked eye.

I once heard somebody say “If you look reality from way close, you’ll start noticing pixels”. After staring at the image above for 22 minutes I came to the conclusion that:

  1. I couldn’t agree more and
  2. God is way better than I am at Photoshop.

Aqua Colbert

Aqua Colbert is a conservationist’s worst nightmare: a bottled water with a carbon footprint that stomps on sustainability and kicks it senseless in its quest to quench America’s insatiable thirst. Ahhh, why do I even try if I can have Stephen itself explain it to you.

Clean Water

Did you ever got feeling that you should be using your abilities in Design to help someone out there? Well of course you have, and that’s call freelance, but I mean, really helping someone and having an impact on somebody’s life, not just their revenue. I know I do, which is exactly why when I found out (too late I’m afraid) about this Charity Project, I was very excited about the idea.

Iceberg On Demand

This is one the ongoing projects that I’m working on and the reason why I haven’t been able to blog this past few days. The Design itself was a real challenge and now that the project has moved to the coding stage it is really starting to take shape.  It should be live before the end of the month if everything goes according to plan.

Oh crap. Just because I said that, now nothing will go according to plan. Damn you Murphy.

Happy Birthday honey!

My wife is turning 23 today which makes me extremely happy. For those who don’t know her, she is an incredible fun and loving human being, OR, she’s an alien from Narcon 5 who’s mission was to marry me in order to learn more about our inferior species , in which case, I’m totally cool with it. Also blowing the candles today, Apple. Yeah, she shares the same birthday as the best computer in the world. That’s how cool she is. Happy birthday Honey!

You have to see this fantastic ad campaign. “It’s easy to miss something you’re not looking for”, excellent message applicable to life, design, and the web. via: badassideas

Who is a Designer

A letter addressed to the Editor of The Engineer magazine, published on March 22, 1968. If anyone has the April issue, puh-leeze let us know how did the Editor resolved Mr. Buck’s life-long mystery. Thank you.

black is the new black

Well, I bet you’ve all heard about Google going black yesterday. The reason? The Earth Hour. Apparently, there’s enough evidence supporting the fact that White on Black websites consume less power on displays.

As noted, an all white web page uses about 74 watts to display, while an all black page uses only 59 watts, the shift to a black background will save a total of 15 (74-59) watts. That turns into a global savings of 8.3 Megawatt-hours per day, or about 3000 Megawatt-hours a year.

Then again, on the same Google’s Earth Hour Page they explain that the real reason behind the decision on going black is actually more of a publicity stunt than an actual conservation measure.

As to why we don’t do this permanently - it saves no energy; modern displays use the same amount of power.

Wheew, Thank God somebody came in and made everything crystal clear. No, wait, now I’m even more confused :/
