Actually no, what you see here are “Two giant horns with ear tubes called ‘Amplifiers’ at Bolling Field, 1921, evidently designed to listen for approaching aircraft”. This and other great vintage photos at Shorpy, The 100-Year Old Photo Blog.

I’m pretty sure after yesterday coverage of Super Tuesday a lot of you are wondering what’s the deal with that humongous iPhone looking multi-touch screen they have in the Situation Room. No? Ok, maybe is just me then.
CNN likes to call it “The Magic Wall”, and I have to say it’s amazing gestural interface (a la minority report) not only sets a milestone on data visualization but also provides a total different perspective for the audience, so I decided to research more on the technology behind it and I found a few interesting things about it.

It is finally here, so prepare to get all your senses hammered by the media coverage, specially if you’re a fan of The Situation Room. I dunno why but it’s hard for me not to do the Strong Bad Burninator’s voice every time I say “The Situation Room”. There I did it again.

I bet you heard about last week’s Internet Black Out in the Middle East and how it left Tens of Millions Internet users (And businesses) without access to the web for days.
According to the report from The Guardian, the outage was caused by a “technical fault” and several countries including India (I bet it wasn’t a good day at Google), Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Of course, by “technical fault” what they really mean is that a boat somehow, cut the Internet Pipeline, which brings us to this post.
Above is a map of The Internet’s Undersea World or in other words, a visual presentation of the cables submerged deep below the oceans, carrying informations (like the internet) between continents. Let this be a message to all my fellow Captains out there: stay away as much as possible from the red lines.

Yesterday my favorite team failed to deliver and got beaten by the NY Giants. The minute the game was over, Michael Strahan was already sporting his NY Giants 2008 Champions hat, which lead me to wonder what where do the Patriots t-shirts and hats go?
Thanks to Google, I now know.

After my “Bring your Dog (and her offspring) to Work Day” post the other day, I couldn’t think of a better follow up than Mark’s: Ten Reasons why your Dog is Smarter than You.
Disclaimer: Normally I would just put a link to Mark’s website here, but apparently he’s having some sort of 500 Internal Server Error going on (maybe his dog learned about the article and sabotaged the server) so for the time being you can read the transcribed post here. Firefox’s Cache is useful after all… mmm… who knew.

Yesterday The Top Game for the Week of January 14th was announced, and guess what, hell just froze over. Halo 3 is now second to Call of Duty 4 as the most played game on Xbox Live.
As a player of both, I find each game awesome and enjoyable in it’s own way, so while people can easily argue Call of Duty 4 have the best multiplayer plaftform in the past year, no one can deny Halo 3 is one of the most innovative games and storylines we have ever seen on a console in years.

Remember last week when I had a Jerry McGuire moment and I wrote how it is our responsibility to educate our users and costumers?
Well, turns out today while catching up with my RSS after my communication black-out day I found this short amazing post from Seth called Dumbing down on which he explains why it is important to resist the pressure to oversimplifying things in your business for the lowest common denominator.

Speaking of tennis, The Australian Open, the first of the four Grand Slams held each year, started on Monday in Melbourne, although this year it looks a lot different from the previous editions. Here’s why.

First, there was Kim. Then Justin came along. Now it’s Veerle’s turn! Not only she has a great taste on home decor and color palettes, it turns out the amazingly talented Belgian designer can also kick your behind in Photoshop Tennis using only his left hand AND while watching an ALIAS episode at the same time.
On Friday afternoon, she played a very funny match against her long time friend Cindy Li and according to the spectators, she came victorious. In the meantime, the other (who by the way look a lot like Veerle on this photo) #1 Belgian Tennis Player claim her 40th Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title.
In other Belgian Design News, the Award Wining Agency Group 94 has launched their redesigned website. While definitively not as accessible as a Standard CSS/XHTML layout, their new Flash website is one of the most original concepts I’ve seen lately. Kuddos!
