Paraguay gets a new 50 grand bill

This is the new 2008 Gs. 50.000 bill. The new design features the face and work of Agustín Pío Barrios “Mangoré”, one of the greatest guitar player and composer the world has seen.

The old bill used to feature the “unkown soldier” who fought one of the many wars Paraguay had during his history of independence and it can be seen here:

The bill had to be redesigned after a HUGE lot of the C series got robbed by “pirates” from the container inside the ship who was transporting them from France to Paraguay. Yeah, I wish I was kidding.

In case you’re wondering how much Gs. 50.000 the answer is: around $ 12.

I know! You would think that’s a thing from the past, well no no no Mr. not in Paraguay. You can read the (translated) story here and even read about how at one point last year, they started to find part of the stolen bills buried on some places. It doesn’t get any more “pirate” than that.
